The ice is out and the heat is on — 2008 Spring Championship, May 10-11

With the ice and cold weather on the outs, it’s officially time to gear up and enjoy some springtime sailing on beautiful Lake Geneva May 10-11. More than 20, and as many as potentially 30 Melges 17s will be ready to race. For 2008, the Lake Geneva Yacht Club has much, much more than world class racing in store for the fleet. They also have a unique tune-up curriculum planned. Friday will include a nice practice sail, registration and a welcoming cocktail hour. On Saturday and Sunday, look to the water for valuable coaching from Lake Geneva Sailing School’s Kevin Jewett. In the evening reap the benefits of post racing feedback and video playback discussions.

Race documentation, including the Notice of Race (NOR) will be posted shortly at MELGES17.COM

The Melges 17 Takes on a Youthful Revolution

Jordan Wiggins, 10 and Bethea Long, 13 both took the ride of a lifetime alongside of Jamie Kimball at Midwinters and the Charleston Regatta during the month of March. "Jordan and Bethea, as with any young sailor, represent the future of our sport. It is important to keep their interest level in sailing as high as possible. In my opinion, there is no better way to do this than have them sail a new, exciting, and fast boat like the Melges 17.’ commented Kimball. MORE
