2009 Melges 17 Midwinter Championship,
March 13-15

There is no better opportunity to get excited about racing the Melges 17 than now! The season kick-off event is the fourth annual Melges 17 Midwinter Championship. The event will take place in Lake Eustis, Fla. and is hosted by the Lake Eustis Sailing Club on March 13-15.

Charters. Boats are available for charter at the 2009 Midwinter Championship. At only $250 per charter (including a guarantee to repair any sustained damages), this is a really great deal. The boat will be rigged and ready to go on Friday afternoon, just in time for Melges' Zenda University. If anyone is interested please contact Mary Anne Ward.

Logistics. Latis Yachting Solutions has worked up an incredible deal full of holiday savings for moving your Melges 17 south to compete at Midwinters and/or transporting back to Charleston or to the Midwest. From Zenda, Wisc. or Crystal Lake, Mich. to Lake Eustis, Fla. for Midwinters, to Charleston S.C. for the Easter Regatta and back to either Crystal or Zenda - 1-4 boats $1,850, 5-9 boats $1,700 or 9+ boats $1,600. Additional set-up and finishing services are available. For $100 at each event you can have mast up, boom on, and boat washed and/or $150 at each event to have the boat packed up. The load date is March 1 with a cut off of February 8. Boats will still be accepted after the cut off date if space is available.

Accommodations. For the family minded sailor there are villas located near Disney. Although a 35 minute commute, the family will be just moments away from attractions. More information can be found by e-mailing to this address: MIDWINTERS@AFLVILLA.COM with the subject entitled 'LESC/mid.'

Sign-Up Now For The Melges 17 Zenda University, March 12

Prior to the Midwinter Championship, on March 12, Melges Performance Sailboats will conduct another keen edition of its famous Melges 17 Zenda University (ZU). If you have never participated at a ZU, here is your chance to experience one of the greatest aspects of owning a Melges boat. Melges sailors are known for sharing their great base of knowledge regarding the boat, how to sail faster and be more successful on the race course. Contact Mary Anne Ward to sign-up.

2009 Melges 17 National Championship,
August 28-30

The Melges 17 U.S. National Championship is a pinnacle event for the fleet. In 2009 a mass of Melges 17s are to be expected at the Glen Lake Yacht Club on August 28-30. It is not uncommon to find as many as 30 on the starting line, this year maybe more! Mary Anne Ward Is 2008 Melges 17 National Ranking Champion

Congratulations. After being the fleet's leading lady since the inception of the Melges 17, in 2008 the class is proud to congratulate Mary Anne Ward as she is the Melges 17 National Ranking Champion. Ward was by far one of the many top performers at a number of events. Frequency and travel was what put Mary Anne on top. Of the nine designated ranking events, she attended six and with solid finishes she took the title by a substantial 58 points ahead of early season leader Ken Wruk. In third was Bill Wiggins.
